Early Spring,  Pier 1 gave us a variety of antique family heirlooms - including this Raie 3 Drawer Dresser.  Instantly  a new project gazed through my mind.  I always check first to see the cost - and generally do a "is it worth it to design one?"  In this case, yes.  Pier 1 has it going for around $200.  You can grab a pretty basic dresser for under $50 at Ikea or shop around at your local thrift shops.  General guidelines again are lightly sand, prime - if you are refinishing a prepainted dresser, I recommend applying Zinsser Bull's Eye 123.  Allow to fully cure.  The exact ivory antique finish can be replicated with American Accents Distressed Ivory Kit.  Apply one to two solid coats of the Ivory paint.  Prior to applying distressed application, we should apply the patina green to the sides of the dresser.  American Accents Distressed Cottage Green is just about the right shade of green.  Don't forget to paint the top of the dresser with the green as well.  Tape off the front of the drawers and apply the green and then allow to fully cure.  Tape off the thinner sections to apply the darker brown stripes.

For the dark brown stripes, you can use a basic brown brushable paint.  Instead of painting the stripes, consider lightly dabbing the brown with a stencil brush.  This gives a bit more dimension and you can go back and age the brown by adding darker areas.  I would allow the entire dresser to dry for at least 24 to 48 hours.  Next, go around the corners and edges fo the dresser and lightly sand the paint off - exposing natural wood.    Wipe down and remove all dust.  Stir the distressed mixture and lightly brush on the final coating.  Be sure to have a clean cloth ready to wipe away any drips and to customize the "darkness" of the top coating.  Attach 6 antique drawer knobs.  Keep in mind you can pick up the cheapest version and spray them with Rust-Oleum's Universal in Brown Hammered or Metallic Pure Gold.  As I continue to browse through all of my magazines, I found this dresser up for an "Applause" in House Beautiful - May 2009 - Under "The Best".  Financial wrap up for our version $100 - plus an honest days work!

Angie's philosophy is simple: take on projects that are affordable and easily achievable. Look for inspiration in magazines and make the projects your own. Hers are real projects for real people and they don't require you to have a background in art. Test
