Turn last years holiday cards into kitchen placemats!   Have the kids cut out their favorite shapes, messages and characters from last years cards - simply glue them on a large piece of construction paper and if you have a lamination machine at home....laminate it!  If not, many office supply stores laminate surfaces for a couple of bucks.  You can make specific ones for example like for Grandma, Unlces & Aunts.  Great personalized gifts for under the $5 mark.  On the back prior to laminating have your child sign his name, the date and add a special message.  It's great to look back at all of the creative years your child had!  It's hard to add any type of embelishments because the lamination machine will leave a "bubble" so stay away from anything that is going to give it depth. A flat surface is what you want for solid lamination.  Enjoy your holiday creativity!
