I have been making this recipe well over 15 years and my friends and family anxiously await their tin of this lucious, crunchy melt- in- your mouth toffee.   It's one of those recipes - once you get it...you get it.  One trick is basically burning the sugar in your butter - the color which should be a warm caramel - once you've mastered the color of the butter - your golden!

Homemade Toffee

  • 1Cup of Butter
  • 1Cup of Sugar
  • 3 Candy sized Hershey Bars
  • 1/2 Cup of Chopped Pecans

In a medium GLASS bowl melt butter (about 3 to 4 minutes) in microwave.  Stir in one cup of sugar.  Microwave 3 to 4 minutes - continue to microwave - 10 to 20 second intervals - stir well in between until it looks like thick foam and then starts to turn into a carmel colored ball of butter.   Pour off extra butter - basically swirling the bowl and holding back the butter ball as you pour off the butter.  Once done, spread on a cookie sheet - break all candy sized hersey bars on top - spread with a spatula - sprinkle on chopped pecans.  You can also put another cookie directly on top of the completed toffee, this will help melt the chocolate faster.   Place in fridge and then break into pieces.

Enjoy!
