Project Steps
Vary ingredient amounts based upon the size of the wall you're painting. This is a really fun project to transform a child's room into an underwater wonderland.
Start by preparing your area. Lay down drop cloths or old sheets and mask off ceilings, floor and trim.
Make sure that your wall is clean and dry. If it was previously painted with a semi-gloss or gloss paint, you'll want to lightly sand the surface before painting.
Use a pencil to draw your sea bottom, kelp and waves. Use stencils if that makes you more comfortable or make a transparency and use an overhead projector.
Paint the wall top using Wildflower blue and the bottom (the sand) with White Wash.
Paint the kelp with Harbor Blue. Sprinkle with blue glitter and let dry.
Spray starfish and shells with bleached stone paint. You can also spray parts of the wall using stencils. (Be very careful spraying inside! The paint mist can travel through air vents and under doors.)
Once dry, glue the shells and starfish to the wall. Look out for mermaids!
