Project Steps
Our Retro-inspired ‘Mod’ ular shelves are so cool. What I love about this storage unit is the complete mobility it has to work anywhere in the house. And each of the cubes is the perfect place to display a single accessory. Add more cubes, build a tower i
Assemble the wooden storage cubes according to manufacturer’s directions, leaving out the interior shelves. Decide on the configuration design, remembering that each unit will have two end cubes. The maximum span of four or five cubes is about the limit w
Fill in all interior shelf peg holes with wood putty and let dry. Sand each of the cubes to re-tooth the surface to accept paint. Wipe with a tack cloth to remove residue. Prime all surfaces with Painter's Touch Primer and let dry.
Tape off the front edges of each cube by taping across the top, sides and inside edges using blue painter’s tape. Paint all the edges with Painter's Touch Sun Yellow paint. Let dry.
Remove the tape and re-tape the front edges. Paint the tops and sides of the cubes with Painter's Touch Navy Blue paint. Paint the insides of each cube with Painter's Touch Apple Red paint.
Pre-drill holes in the sides of each cube and secure the cubes together in the desired configuration with wood screws and wood glue. You may need the help of a friend or some wood clamps.
Attach a caster to the bottom of each of the four corners of the two end cubes.
