Bed headboard or footboard.

White spray paint.

Chalkboard paint - in a can - available at any home improvement store.

Painters tape.

Sandpaper.

Clear lacquer spray paint.

Coat hooks - if desired (these were from IKEA)

First find a really cool quirky bed footboard. Wash clean all the grooves and carvings. Thoroughly dry.

Apply two coats of white spray paint, drying between each coat.

To add texture, sand back to the dark wood in places that will show the carvings.

Covering the section that will be the chalkboard, spray the piece with clear lacquer, satin finish - two coats.

Tape off the section you want for chalkboard. Using your fingernail, seal the tape to the edge the paint will touch. Apply two thick coats of chalkboard paint. Dry throughly between each coat.

Carefully remove tape when the second coat is wet.

Install two hooks if desired.

Hang vertical or horizontal by screwing into studs.
